Mississippi Map Birthday Turtle Cake

Peter reached out to us to create a sculpted turtle cake for his wife’s 30th birthday party. His wife loves turtles and the couple currently owns two turtles. He asked us to create a Mississippi map turtle which apparently is a very popular species of turtle to have as a pet. The turtle’s distinguishing characteristic is its ridged black tipped knobs (or in this case gum paste!) that run along the top of the turtle’s shell.

Last fun fact for everyone – Did you know the Mississippi Turtle is named after the Mississippi river? For this turtle, we used almond cake with mocha buttercream for the birthday girl’s flavors.
