Top 10 Wedding Cakes 2011 (1011)
Every year since 2007 we’ve been compiling our various top lists of cakes for 2011. We are starting off this year’s list with our top 10 wedding cakes for 2011. To compile our list we looked at traffic results, facebook likes, Pins on Pinterest and also factored in when we created the cake.
Thanks to all our brides, grooms, wedding planners, photographers and vendors for a successful 2011!
Starting off our top 10 wedding cakes is this unique monogrammed wedding cake for our friend’s Kerry & Alex. The unique cake included a monogrammed which spanned across all three cakes. The monogram style was inspired by the beautiful invitations that were created by Jennifer of Adori Designs.
Rebecca & Mike had a unique design challenge for their wedding cake. The couple’s venue at the Nauvoo Grill Club in Fair Haven, NJ is heavily influenced by the great American architect Frank Lloyd Wright with warm woods, stone fireplaces and a laid back mission style. They wanted to combine Wright’s grand architect style with their fall and peacock colors for the wedding.
The result was this unique cake which comes in at number 9 this year.
The always popular Nightmare Before Christmas wedding cake returned this year and generated tremendous amount of traffic and Facebook likes. Nancy, the bride, reached out to us and asked for this creation after seeing our nightmare before christmas groom’s cake. She left us this testimonial after the wedding which really made my day:
Pink cake box staff,
Both my husband and I would like to send a massive thank you to all of you who made our idea a reality! The cake was an absolute show stopper at our wedding! Thank you so very much from the bottom of our hearts.
PS the cake was absolutely delicious.
This fun and whimsical wedding cake, clocking in at #7, incorporated a personal touch of the bride and groom. We sculpted a replica of the couple’s dog with their pink collars. We used bright and whimsy colors for this wedding cake including light yellow, caladon green, and shades of pinks.
For our #6 cake of the year, we combined two of our previous wedding cakes. The first was our 4 tier basketweave wedding cake which we used as a loose basis for the design. The other design we incorporated was inspired from this wedding shower cake.
At #5, is this 4 tier wedding cake which was covered in blush pink fondant with white damask stencil and gold swiss dots and piped pearls. We matched the color theme of the cake to the couple’s wedding colors. The top tier includes scored quilting lines similar to what we did for Bethenny’s wedding cake.
Our peacock and peahen cake came in at #4 this year. The highlight of this cake are the peacock and peahen sitting atop the wedding cake. The peacock’s feathers cascade around each tier of the cake.
We were thrilled to receive this feedback from Shital we had to share again:
I just wanted to thank you for the wonderful peacock cake you made for me and my husband. It was more beautiful then I could’ve ever imagined. Everyone loved it! There was a huge line just for the cake and it ran out fast. All my guests complimented the different flavors and said it was the best tasting cake they’ve ever had!
From tasting to service to execution, you guys really delivered. I want to thank you and your team for making our wedding cake ABSOLUTELY PERFECT!
Amy’s hydrangea wedding cake with over 166 Facebook likes comes in at #3 for the year. We used our hydrangea blossom cake as inspiration. The top of the cake includes several pale pink blossoms and as you move down the cake, the color of the blossoms transition to a darker pink. This ombre theme was popular this year and we’ll likely see more ombre themed wedding cakes in 2012!
We had the pleasure of working with Laura & Kara from My Bellissima to create this elegant on this enormous bows and bling wedding cake. The towering cake is covered in light silver/platinum fondant and includes purple separators with crystal bands in the middle of each one. Each cake tier includes a thin rouched band in dark platinum, with touches of piping and crystal accents.
And finally, the number #1 cake of the year if our 5 tier floral and damask wedding cake. The cake was actually created for a wedding in December of this year, but already its garnered 114 likes and tremendous number of visitors. We worked nonstop to create this cake and it includes the larger number of sugar flowers we’ve ever created for a wedding cake.
