Starry Night
Posted to All Pastries, Celebration Cakes, Baby Shower Cakes, Novelty Cakes on Wednesday, June 14th, 2006.So a client asked me to create an interpretation of Van Gogh’s “Starry Night” On a cake for her daughter’s baby shower. She asked me to incorporate some pink in with the blue since they weren’t sure of the sex of the baby. Starry Night is her daughter’s favorite painting - so she thought it would be a cool surprise!

I started out by marblizing lavender, blue and white fondant as my ‘canvas.’

Then I drew the little village around the sides of the cake with food coloring pens and used black fondant to create the Cypress tree.

Then I used gel food color and paint brushes to create my interpretation of the brooding sky and stars! A little luster dust and VOILA!

I was reading http://cakefun.blogspot.com/ which bounced me to you. As I stated, your design and beautiful interpretation made my jaw drop. After recovering, I continued to read your site. I only wish I lived closer to you.
Wishing you much success!

That is cool! Starry Night sure continues to inspire. Me, too, for my first novel, Searching For A Starry Night. Love the painting!
