Party Dress Cake (644)
This past Thursday we competed in a cake contest sponsored by the Somerset Art Association. The “Let Them Eat Cake” contest’s theme was the celebration of spring. We created the “Bloom of the Ball” which was a nature inspired party dress adorned with sugar roses, vines, and leaves hanging on a dress form.
The cake was a sour cream orange zest cake filled with pistachio and white chocolate buttercream. It was a really great experience creating this 46″ tall cake, although its transportation to Bedminister Fiddler Elbow’s country club was a little daunting…not to mention our air brush machine overheated and blew out every fuse in our store the night before! This forced us to hand paint the cake…but it all worked out in the end.
We were so excited to win the “Show Stopper” award. I couldn’t have done it without my staff. Thanks for all of your hard work…and keeping me sane through this past reaaaallly long week!

I am so proud of you for following your dreams. You are doing what you love and you are so terrific at it! Hope all is well…
What an astonishing work of art. I was wondering, how many people does a cake like that feed? Also, why haven’t I seen you on the Food Network Challenges!? I don’t think I’ve missed an of the cake decorating challenges, and I can honestly say, that I’ve yet to see anything so beautiful. Let me know if you open up in Montreal Canada!
Hi Cyndi – thanks for your comment. This cake feeds around 100 people. And we have been on two Food Network challenges. The first one has already aired, but the second one will be airing on May 17th @ 8:00pm EST.

Your cakes are works of art, what a wonderful way to bring people joy with your talent!
Anne,
I must say, to me, this is the most extraordinary art form I have ever seen. Just like you, ive always been interested in baking cakes and decorating since the age of 6 and up until now, 16 years later. I come from a small town in Tennessee and a conservative Pakistani family and ended up as an accountant. Decorating cakes is my passion and always has been, but I don’t have many resources where I live so I visit webistes, read book and search for blogs living vicariously through other cake entusiasts. I never realized, until I came across your website, how a cake could be transformed into something so magnificant. Anne, you have inspired me to follow my dreams and your beautiful confections have ignited an even greater passion for decoating cakes. Thank you.
Najia – thanks so much for your wonderful comment. I enjoyed reading it. I wish you the best of luck in following your passions and I’m glad we were able to help inspire you. Best of luck and I wish you best of success!
