We created 60 of these two tiered round mini cakes for a birthday party in December. The mini cakes were included with this 1st birthday sugar figurine cake. Each mini cake was filled with coconut cake and pineapple buttercream. They were covered in teal fondant and lime swiss dots. The top of the cake included a monogrammed “G A” for the birthday boy. Each cake was packaged in a clear favor box with purple ribbon.

Unfortunately the start of 2010 did not start well for me and I was home sick on Saturday and was unable to attend the demonstration at the cake convention.
To make up for missing the event, I’ll be posting a video later this week of the Fancy shoebox and gumpaste shoe cake demo I was supposed to give on Saturday.
Update: Fancy Shoe & Shoebox Video Tutorial is now up online.

Happy New Year! It’s that time of year again! Time for a 2009 round up of our most popular wedding cakes. We did it last year, and the year before and will continue the tradition this year.
We’ll start first with our top 5 wedding cakes list which was compiled based on a combination of number of views, comments and our personal favorites throughout the year.
#5 7 Tier Wedding Cake
This towering 7 tier wedding cake was filled intricate detailing on every tier – one of the most involved cakes of 2009.

#4 Cabbage Rose Bouquet Wedding Cake
We shot this cake for the (201) Bride Magazine 2009 summer edition. The shot came out beautifully which helped propel this cake into our top 5 for 2009.

#3 Dogwood Wedding Cake
This is our first wedding cake with cascading white and blush pink dogwood flowers. You can view a video of the wedding cake here.

We created this 2 tier wedding cake for The Knot Spring/Summer 2009 Magazine. The cake was inspired by our two tier butterfly wedding cake. We added ivory lace, pink roses and a thin black trim to finish off the decorative elements.

Sorry we don’t have a picture of the entire setup with our cupcake stand, but at the very least here is a photo of the black and white zebra print cake we created for a sweet 16 birthday party. At the base of the topper cake is a lime green band and bow. Along with the topper cake we included 130 cupcakes covered with lime green frosting. The color scheme for this cake reminds me of a Topsy Turvy B’not Mitzvah Cake we created back in May.
Remember we have cupcake stands available for rent that can hold up to 180 cupcakes!

Jill Tomich from the Bombshell Bride reached out to us recently asking us to contribute some tips for healthier wedding cake ideas. The site focuses on fitness, diet and lifestyle for brides to help them achieve their fitness and diet goals. From the article:
As an alternative to the traditional diet-disaster slice, Anne gave Bombshell Brides three healthy wedding cake ideas.
1. Downsize Portions
Large portions of rich wedding cakes pose unnecessary temptation. Especially after a full meal or wedding buffet…Read More
I highly recommend the site. My favorite section is the wedding fitness portion of the site.

I think this is the first Bachelorette cake we’ve ever posted on the blog (based on the fact that a search for Bachelorette returned no results). The top of the cake includes ostrich feathers along with a sugar replica of the bride wearing a corset and garter. The middle tier is aqua blue with diagonal stripes and circle cutouts. The bottom tier is ivory with vertical circle patterns in aqua, blue & teal.
Flavors included chocolate cake with hazlenut buttercream, red velvet with vanilla buttercream and marble cake with coconut buttercream.
Update: As Ferwa astutely pointed out in the comments, this cake is inspired by a Bride & Bloom cake we created nearly one year ago.
