Arabian Nights 3rd Birthday Cake

We created this three tier square cake for a 3 year-old’s birthday. The party was Arabian themed and at the top of the cake we included a gold 3D sculpted genie lamp. The top and bottom tiers were covered with quilted fuchsia and decorated with gold piped dots and gold tassels.

The middle tier was decorated in fuchsia fondant with darker fuchsia cutout diamond patterns and larger gold piped dots in the corner. Flavors and fillings included banana with chocolate buttercream, vanilla with oreo buttercream and red velvet with vanilla buttercream.

1st Birthday Giraffe Cake

Today we celebrated JJ’s first birthday! I cannot believe a whole year has passed! It has been an amazing year – and we feel so blessed to have such a great little guy in our lives!!!

So, of course I put a lot of thought into his cake. I actually had a few break-downs over this one! I felt so much pressure because I was worried one day he’d look back at the pictures and say, “Geez mom – why did I have such a mediocre cake?” I fully acknowledge I’m nuts At any rate, after remaking the giraffe and balloon (the first one was entirely too large for this cute little cake!) everything sort of fell into place.

Unfortunately, when the time finally came for the big cake moment, JJ was less than thrilled – and didn’t even smash his smash cake! It may have had something to do with the fact that I stripped him down to his birthday suit in front of his entire party….or that he was just overtired, or that this is just the first defiant moment that my son had against his mother! Hahaha.

At any rate, the design of the cake was inspired by JJ’s favorite stuffed giraffe, and his love for balloons! The giraffe is holding onto the 1 for dear life, as the balloon is tuggin on his tail. The cake flavors were banana (JJ’s favorite!) filled with vanilla bean and chocolate italian meringue buttercream, and red velvet with lemon cream cheese and raspberry chambord italian meringue buttercream.

We included “1″ favor cookies, and some mini chocolate cupcakes as well. Happy Birthday little boy! We love you! P.S. Next year JJ you are getting Fudgie the Whale!

29th Birthday Basketball Sneaker Cake

For Junior’s 29th birthday we were asked to replicate his favorite basketball sneaker. The shoe is covered in black fondant with electric green highlights. It sits on top of a brown shoebox with a “Happy 29th Birthday Junior” message across the front of the board. Inside the shoe is red velvet with raspberry chambord buttercream.

Topsy Turvy Candy Cake with Owl

For Mia’s birthday we created this 3 tier round topsy turvy cake. The top of the cake includes an owl which was created to match an image sent by the client. The cake is decorated in bright colors including hot pink, bright yellow, bright blue, medium purple and lime. We decorated the base of each tier with rolled fondant balls and included fondant lollipops on each tier.

The entire cake was our signature pink velvet with oreos and cream buttercream. The cake was inspired by Hailey’s topsy turvy candy cake that we created last year.

Hot Air Balloon Birthday Cake

Back in 2009 we created a 1st birthday cake for Mona’s son Adam. This year, we were fortunate to get the opportunity to create another birthday cake for the family – this time it was for Gabriel’s first birthday. The theme of the party was hot air balloons and we incorporated colors from the invitation into the cake.

The 2 tier round cake are covered in light blue fondant with white cloud and hot air balloon cutouts. The balloon colors included white, red blue, green, orange and chocolate brown. The flavors and fillings included red velvet with raspberry buttercream and marble with chocolate buttercream.

Tiger Birthday Cake

Jennifer reached out to us to create this tiger themed cake for her son’s first birthday safari themed birthday party. The orange and white tiger with black stripes atop the first tier with his metallic gold grown was inspired by our original tiger cake.

The top tier is decorated in polka dots to match the invitation along with a fondant number “1″ in burnt red. The bottom tier is covered in light blue fondant with multi-colored stripes including ivory, brown, burtn red, mustard, green, burnt orange and blue. Flavors and fillings included red velvet with vanilla buttercream and marble with vanilla buttercream.

Sporting Snowman Birthday Cake

This weekend we celebrated my husband Jesse’s birthday. This was a particularly hard year to come up with a unique cake for his birthday as I’ve used up many of his favorite things in past cakes. (Past cakes included this laptop cake, Mr. Potato Head Cake and his blender cake)

So after much creative deliberation I came up with this sporty snowman cake that incorporates three of Jesse’s favorite sports – basketball, volleyball and tennis. You may also notice a wedding ring flying off the snowman’s left hand. Incidentally Jesse also lost his wedding ring this year – playing beach volleyball after work. (He rarely ever takes off his ring while playing sports, but has since learned his lesson after losing it this year…)

The cake flavor was peanut butter with peanut butter oreos and cream buttercream and chocolate Italian meringue. We shot at this video at our house at our Christmas party last night:

Multicolored Sneaker Cake

We recreated Nicole’s favorite shoe for her birthday this weekend. The sneaker is decorated with all sorts of details including flowers, hearts, tie-dyed peace signs, glitter and rainbow stripes The toe of the sneaker is decorated with various colored glittered gems.

Primary colors used for the shoe were silver for the shoe laces and hot pink and turquoise for the sneakers colors.

Baby Block Animal Cake for 1st Birthday

Lori celebrated her daughter’s first birthday this past weekend and asked us to create a baby block cake inspired by our two tier baby block animal cake.

The top of the cake includes a purple teddy bear, a blue elephant and yellow ducky. We decorate the cake with gumpaste curls and covered it in white fondant with light pink and pale yellow borders. The entire cake included our signature pink velvet with vanilla buttercream.

First Birthday Pink Cupcake Cake

This past weekend, we helped celebrate Ellie’s first birthday party at our neighbor’s house in Morristown, NJ.  The theme of the party was cupcakes! Yea!  So we created this extra large pink cupcake to match.  The cake is covered with a  pink fondant cupcake liner with white, yellow, green and raspberry polka dots.

The top of the cake includes ivory fondant to look like buttercream frosting with a pink number 1, cherry and sprinkles.  We decorated the board with raspberry  and white diagonal stripes and lime green ribbon with Ellie’s name written across the board.   The entire cake was vanilla rainbow polka dot and filled with raspberry chambord buttercream!
