Snow Leopard Birthday Cake

Chris reached out to us and asked if we could design a special cake for his wife Christine’s 40th birthday. Christine is a veterinarian who loves cats. Years ago, she did some work at the Cape May Zoo, and loves animals of all types.

Of all the animals, her favorite is the Snow Leopard. In addition, she is a huge fan of the show Deadliest Catch and loves everything about crabs including crab fishing and eating crabs. As Chris said, crabs in the theme is an absolute must!

So we worked with Chris to combine two of his wife’s favorite things – a snow leopard and crabs into the theme of the cake. The result was this sitting snow leopard holding a Tanner snow crab in his mouth. Chris provided us images for both the crab cake and leopard to help us ensure the likeness was accurate. (With this wife being a veterinarian we were worried she would spot any inaccuracies )

Inside the cat is banana with 2 layers of chocolate buttercream and one layer of hazelnut buttercream. We delivered the cake to the Stone Bar Inn in Stroudsburg, PA.

There are no words I can adequately use to tell you how beautiful this cake was. I hated to even cut it, but since I am a veterinarian, I was tasked with making that first incision! It was beyond MY dream cake – being a big cat lover – notably snow leopards..and being a HUGE Deadliest Catch fan. My dream bday cake would have cats/crabs but this was beyond anything in my head. The detail on the cat and the crab are stunning. Your work is amazing !!! AND the cake was delicious – banana with hazelnut and chocolate fillings. EVERYONE was impressed. You are amazingly talented artists!

Many many thanks to Allison for her patience with me during the ordering process. I spent time researching the Internet for a quality cake designer, but the few I found within 100 miles were unable to accommodate the relatively short notice (just over a month). However, I was wowed by the artistry I witnessed in the Pink Cake Box gallery. I sent them an email request and Allison contacted me the next day.

Given Anne’s background and experience, I was thrilled that they were willing to help me surprise Christine for her birthday. I spent a few days hashing out what exactly I should get in terms of size, shape, theme, and flavors. Allison guided me along and for that I am grateful.

When we arrived at the Stone Bar Inn for the party, Christine thought there was a stuffed animal snow leopard on the bar. When her friends told her to look at her cake, she freaked out!

Not having had a chance to visit the Pink Cake Box facility for sampling, I trusted that the cake would accurately represent what Allison and I discussed visually, and that the cake would be pleasing to the palate. But, when I took my first bite of Christine’s cake, I was stupefied at how much better it tasted than I had expected. This was, hands down, the best, most moist and flavorful cake I had ever eaten.

If I ever need such a cake again, I will definitely turn to Anne and her talented crew.

Italian Cake Sandwich

Our favorite sandwich shop in Denville has reopened! Like many stores in Denville along Main Street, Sergio & Co. was hit hard when Hurricane Irene arrived back in August of 2011. Damage was extensive enough that Sergio’s had to renovate the entire store. And after many months of waiting they have finally reopened!

The staff at Pink Cake Box wanted to help celebrate the reopening with this Italian sandwich cake. We all rely on Sergio’s delicious food and could not wait for the reopening!

Happy Mother's Day

Anthony's Surprise 30th Birthday Cake

Ashley, one of our favorite customers and biggest supporters, reached out to us for to help design a cake for her husband Anthony’s surprise 30th birthday party.  We’ve done some fantastic cakes for Ashley and her husband over the years including some of our all-time most popular -  the Yorkie Cake and Tropical Wedding cake.

Elements from both cakes where incorporated into Anthony’s birthday cake including their beloved Yorkie Juicy!  The top of his cake included a replica of Anthony with his blue macaw Kingston perched on his shoulder.  He’s dressed in a green, yellow and red Reggae t-shirt with blue jeans and black shoes.

The top tier of the cake is covered in turquoise blue while the bottom tier is covered in green.  The base of each tier includes sand along with other elements that represent Anthony’s favorite things including swedish fish candy, a slot machine, reggae music, birds and a rum bottle.  The entire cake was chocolate with a layer of peanut buttercream, oreos and cream buttercream and coconut buttercream.

We are always thrilled to hear from Ashley as she is always kind enough to give us feedback and we were waiting to hear back just to make sure everything went well.   She did not disappoint and we were thrilled to hear from her  via facebook:

Thank you soo much for the AMAZING birthday cake! Anthony was completely surprised and loved the whole cake-we didn’t want to eat it! He could not believe how perfect his bird Kingston looked! Juicy looked beautiful, of course. Lol You guys are the best!! xoxo

Whimsical Wedding Shower Cake

Charlene reached out to us to help create a topsy turvy cake for Diana’s bridal shower in Short Hills, NJ. The top of the cake includes the soon to be husband and wife enjoying a delicious looking salad with a 6-pack and their calico cat. Charlene worked with us to ensure we worked in all the fine details of the couple down to the way Diana parts her hair.

The top tier of the cake is covered in celadon green fondant with another feline climbing up the cake. Pink coral flowers along with green grass decorate the base of the tier. The bottom tier is covered in light blue fondant with clouds and the golden gate bridge.

Baby Duck Cupcakes

These were special cupcakes for my good friend and mommy-to-be Kristen. The cupcakes were topped with little bathtime duckies surrounded by blue bubbles.

Half of the cupcakes were gluten free carrot with vanilla buttercream. The other half were vanilla with hazelnut frangelico buttercream.

Monogrammed Flower Wedding Cake

Inspired by our monogrammed wedding cake, this 3 tier wedding cake was created for a wedding at the Highlawn Pavilion in West Orange NJ.

The top of the cake included an assorted sugar flower bunch in pale pink with ivory and green accents to match the brides flower arrangement. Flowers included peonies, hydrangea, tulips and roses.

The cake was covered in ivory fondant with white bands across the base and hand piped three-dot swiss patterns. A monogram for the couple highlights the second tier. Flavors and fillings included pink champagne cake with vanilla buttercream, red velvet with cream cheese and raspberry chambord buttercream and chocolate with oreos and cream buttercream.

Best of Morris Ranunculus & Poppy Cupcake Tower

A couple of weeks ago we were honored to attend the Best of Morris & Essex Party Expo at the Sheraton Parsippany Hotel. Beverly and Allison represented Pink Cake Box well at the event. They shared the night with several other Best of 2011 Morris and Essex vendors.

The cake topper for the stand was decorated with orange ranunculus and poppies in peach, blush and yellow. The topper included contrasting bands in coordinating colors around the base of the tier. The cupcakes were carrot with vanilla frosting in light yellow, peach and blush.

Hockey Themed Bar Mitzvah Cake

Sam celebrated his Bar Mitzvah this weekend at Gotham Hall in NYC. Sam is a big fan of hockey and we incorporated all sorts of different hockey elements into his Bar Mitzvah cake. This is the second Mitzvah themed sports cake we’ve done for this athletic family – back in January of 2011 we created a sports themed Bat Mitzvah cake for Sam’s sister.

The top of the cake included untied black hockey stakes with red laces and Sam’s number “51″ on the back. Poured sugar “ice” pieces surrounded the blades of the skates. The top cake tier was decorated with blue fondant with white paneled sides. Each side panel was decorated with gold cutout crossed hockey sticks. The base of the tier was decorated with red, white and blue layered bands to match the Bar Mitzvah color theme.

The next tier was decorated with red fondant and blue versions of Sam’s number in swiss patterns. Sam’s logo, provided by the family, highlights the front of the tier. Additional black leaves and vines to coordinate with the logo highlight the remainder of the cake.

The final tier is highlighted with a hockey puck breaking through the white cake tier alog with black silhouette hockey figure decorations.

Flavors and fillings included coconut with vanilla buttercream, vanilla with chocolate and oreo buttercream and red velvet with vanilla buttercream.

Children's Book Themed Birthday Cake

Jacob celebrated his birthday this past weekend with a children’s book themed party. We created this 2 tier cake to match the party’s theme. The top tier was decorated with deep sky blue buttercream and fondant cloud cutouts with a white crescent moon on top.

The bottom tier included light sage green buttercream with a fondant fence and surrounding grass. The tier also included a mother rabbit holding her cute baby rabbit.

Flavors and fillings included chocolate with coconut buttercream and vanilla with vanilla buttercream.
