Kim from Brides magazine contacted us back in March asking us if we’d be interested in creating 3 miniature cakes airbrushed to match a gorgeous ombre chiffon textile with shades of tangerine and magenta. The idea was that the three cakes’ colors when lined up side-by-side should mirror the color progression on the chiffon:

Here’s the final product published in this fall’s issue.

The editor left us a flattering post on the brides Wedded Bits Blog. Thanks Kim!

I totally gasped when I saw her creations for the first time—and I think you will too when you pick up this issue of the magazine. For a small wedding, having miniature cakes—one for each guest, can be a really fun idea! Check out the Fall/Winter 2009 issue of Brides New Jersey for more great stories and fabulous ideas!

This 3 tier wedding cake with a cabbage rose bouquet was created (201) Bride magazine summer 2009 edition. From the magazine:

Heap’s cake displays classic elegance. This sleek, rounded three-tiered cake is finished in rolled fondant and features a sophisticated gum past cabbage rose bouquet adorned with a satin bow. The lemon chiffon cake is filled with raspberry white chocolate mousse. Heap believes that matching the cake’s flowers to those used in bouquets is a popular trend. “Mimicking a bride’s gown and bouquet is a wonderful way to translate the bride’s style onto a cake”, she says.

So I can breathe a little now that the show has aired. It’s pretty scary watching yourself on TV…I notice weird things like the fact that I stick my tongue out when I’m concentrating… haha.

Anyway – I wanted to share some photos of the challenge now that I can…it was a really fun challenge and I am proud of the cake that Cathy and I put forward, whether or not it looked like a ‘wedding cake’. Really, after the last challenge, the goal was just to make a pretty cake – so that’s what we tried to do ! I was pretty steadfast about not changing the design too much – so that I didn’t run out of time…

Anyway – just wanted to share some pics and thank everyone for the great support!!!!

Lastly, here is a close-up of the fantasy flowers we created:

And I should mention that Josh Rael, my bachelor on the show, has his own website where you can listen to some of his music.
