Bride & Bloom Magazine

Monday, April 28th, 2008

Twice a year, Bride & Bloom magazine puts together a fashion spread in their magazine. This year their spread was inspired by different Hollywood movies and we had the privilege of contributing. They asked us to create a cake inspired by the movie “That Thing You Do” using a light yellow palette with a girly/flirtatious theme. The entire spread from the magazine is below. A closeup of the wedding cake is available here.

Confections to Celebrate

Saturday, December 8th, 2007

Janet Leonardi from Panache Magazine wrote a wonderful article on Pink Cake Box:

Panache Cake Article

Anne Khoobiar Heap is happiest elbow deep in bowls of fluffy batter and swirling sweet butter cream. Heap, an accomplished pastry chef and founder of the Pink Cake Box, a by-appointment-only specialty bakery in Denville, helps people celebrate the holidays and other important milestones throughout the year with her custom-designed and beautifully crafted baked goods. Whether it’s the wedding, birthday, shower or anniversary cake of your dreams, a pyramid of flowery pastel cupcakes for your daughter’s tea party or a legion of cellophane-wrapped snowmen cookies for a corporate event, Heap and her staff can expertly and deliciously provide it.Present Cake
Heap, a graduate of Boston College, began a career in advertising but was soon lured away to pursue her dreams of baking. She enrolled in New York’s French Culinary Institute Pastry Arts program, apprenticed at the famed Ron Ben-Israel cakes in Soho, went on to become pastry chef at Il Capriccio Ristorante in Whippany and has been whipping up innovative sweet confections ever since.
Her specialty-baking business started out small in her home kitchen, then expanded to her mother’s larger kitchen. Now it’s grown significantly and is housed in a deluxe, modern-equipped
shop.

The article also includes several delicious recipes including Gingerbread Cookies, Red Velvet Cake, Peppermint Frosting, & Chocolate Candy Cane Cupcakes.

Pink Cake Box in Daily Record

Saturday, November 3rd, 2007

If you didn’t get a chance to see our article in the Halloween Edition of the Daily Record you can read the article online.

Daily Record Pink Cake Box

From the article:

Why did you start Pink Cake Box?

Ever since I was a little girl, I have LOVED baking. After college (Boston College) I pursued a career in advertising. I continued to bake and even started selling cookies and pastries. I decided to leave my job to go to The French Culinary Institute in New York City.

While there, I discovered cake! After an apprenticeship with Ron Ben-Israel Cakes, I decided that I wanted to have my own cake shop, where I could specialize in custom cakes. Every day I do what I love, which is creating centerpieces for parties, weddings and other special events.

Pink Cake Box in Star Ledger

Sunday, September 30th, 2007

Star Ledger NJ Pink Cake BoxWe are proud to announce that Brooke Tarabour, writer for the Star Ledger’s “Taste of N.J.” column in the Savor section, recently featured Pink Cake Box:

“Each one is unusual and spectacular: some look like tiers of gift boxes, others like woven ribbons, still others like autumn harvests, and if you can picture an elegant, polka dotted cake, it’s here too…
So how does all this gorgeous stuff taste? It’s delicious…
Heap’s personal style definitely shows some flair for playfulness. She loves bright colors like hot pink and bright green and uses them a lot in her work., but she keeps her lines clean”

NJ Bride Quilted Pattern Wedding Cake

Sunday, January 14th, 2007

Check out the latest issue of NJ Bride! Our quilted wedding cake is featured in the Winter 2007 issue on page 179. The almond cake was decorated to match a beautiful paper pattern and is filled with rose-infused buttercream. I used rolled fondant to create the ribbons, except for the dark brown ribbons which are real satin ribbons. The fruit was created with royal icing, which I piped on and also painted on with a paintbrush. I then painted the royal icing with silk white luster.

Credit for the photography goes to Frank Aiello and the style and production to Gina La Morte.
