Thanks to everyone from Pink Cake Box and everyone who donated to help us surpass our goal of raising $5000 for the American Cancer Society. Even though the weather didn’t cooperate, we all had fun walking for Making Strides in Parsippany last weekend. Here’s a shot from us at the walk wearing our new Save the Cupcakes t-shirts:
First off, we’d like to thank everyone for donating to Team Pink Cake Box to benefit the American Cancer Society. We raised a total of $5,500 and exceeded our goal of $5,000. We are thankful for everyone’s support!
For the raffle, we had 61 individual entries for a total of 172 tickets. Everyone was assigned one or more tickets depending on how much they donated. We then used a random number generator to choose 3 numbers from 1 to 172 to represent the winning tickets:
Based on those numbers, the winners were as follows:
Grand Prize Winner of Free Cake Valued up to $750: Jennifer C.
1st Prize Winner of 1 Dozen Free Cupcakes: Bob B.
2nd Prize of 10% off next order of $300 or more: Melissa S.
The winners will be notified via email. Thanks again to everyone who entered- together we can help make strides against breast cancer!
We are so close to our fund raising goal of $5000 for the American Cancer Society. So to up the ante we have increased the raffle prize from a $500 cake to a $750 dollar cake!!
Our fall classes are already filled, so we’ve decided to add another weekend of classes from December 5th to 6th. As with the fall classes, you can sign of for any three of these classes, or sign up for all three classes for a reduced price. Each class is limited to 6 students and students must be 18 years or older.
The Pink Cake Box team will be participating in this year’s American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk in Parsippany, NJ. Making Strides is close to our hearts as our company is comprised of 95% women.
We would like to show our support and raise money for breast cancer research and awareness by donating a free cake up to $500 $750 in value to one lucky raffle winner. On top of that we’ll be offering a 2nd prize of 1 dozen free cupcakes and a third prize of 10% off any purchase of $300 or more.
The link below will take you to the Pink Cake Box donation page. Every $15 you donate will count as one raffle ticket and every $50 you donate will count towards 5 raffle tickets.
The winners, chosen at random on October 17, 2009, will get to work with Pink Cake Box to design their own special cake or cupcakes. Note: We cannot ship our cakes/cupcakes and typically only deliver within the following areas:
New Jersey
New York
Connecticut
Eastern Pennsylvania

A few months ago we shot a video with Satin Ice to help display all the great things you can do with their fondant. Check out our video here! Besides our video, Satin Ice also has videos from other great cake designers include Collette Peters, Elisa Strauss, Buddy Valastro, Ron Ben-Israel & Jorge Amsler.
Our fall lineup for decorating classes has been finalized! We are offering three different classes during the weekend of November 14th. You can sign up for any of the three classes individually, or sign up for all three classes for a reduced price.
We would like to show our support and raise money for breast cancer research and awareness by donating our time and proceeds of our “pink” products.
We’d like to ask all our loyal readers to help support us. Every donation makes a difference. We know times are tighter than normal for many of us, but if you can spare even $5 that will help.
Also, as part of our “pink” product line, we’ll be selling Pink Ribbon Cookies to help raise funds. 100% of the profits from the cookies will be donated to the American Cancer Society. Call us today to find out more!
Each of us has our own reasons for caring about the fight against breast cancer … whatever your reasons, I hope you’ll choose to make a difference, make history, and make strides with Pink Cake Box.
We held a cake decorating class this past Sunday with a great group of 6 women. Emily and I lead the class in instruction included filling, squaring off, stacking, and fondanting. Everyone finished the class with their own 2 tier cake.
One of the students left me this great thank-you note after the class:
Hi Anne,
I just wanted to thank you for the class on Sunday. I had the best time and learned so much, you have no idea. I got a hero’s welcome when I got home and everyone was amazed by how beautiful the cake looked and how adorable “Simon” the elephant was. And then poof! it was gone — eaten and enjoyed, but not before I took many, many pictures.
Thank you again. If you ever need an “older” intern — look no further! I’m yours!
Best regards,
Linda
Stay tuned for more classes and sign up here for more information.
We are excited to officially announce Pink Cake Box’s appearance on a new prime-time TLC competition series ULTIMATE CAKE OFF airing October 12th, 2009 at 10 PM ET/PT.
With only nine hours, the competitors must make cakes that are at least five feet tall and are creative enough to win the taste of the client and the ultimate prize. To add to the pressure, the contestants also face two mini-challenges – a skills test and a taste test – that could give one team the ultimate advantage: being able to sit out another team for 30 minutes.
We’ll send out a reminder to everyone once the date gets closer. To ensure you get the reminder feel free to join any of the services below:
So we recently spent the afternoon at the park for some bbq, games and relaxation…perfect timing before a busy cake-filled summer! We did a 3 legged race..which was more than amusing…wheel barrel races, blind finger painting and more! Nothing is more entertaining than watching really talented artists trying to finger paint blindly….. Beverly manned or should I say ‘womanned’ (haha) the grill and made us some tasty burgers! – check out our pics below! A special thanks to Elizabeth for helping to organize the day! (See her below with her Hannah Montana kickball)
A few weeks later Courtney, one of our newsletter subscribers, sent us this lovely note about how a small gesture on our part helped a lucky couple win a free photography session for their wedding.
Hey there,
I just wanted to express my gratitude. I’m a subscriber to the feed blitz cake newsletter, where I heard about the Ian Londin photography contest for engaged couples (4.11.09). I passed it along to a friend and coworker who recently got engaged to her boyfriend. She drafted up her engagement story, submitted it, and enthusiastically trudged through the voting process.
Just this evening she and her fiance were announced the winners!! … all thanks to your newsletter. Please know you helped to make one young couple’s wedding extra special.
And on an unrelated note, your work is incredible!! I have a total cake crush on you!!
Many, many thanks!!
Courtney
We are very happy for Diana and Benjamin and glad we could do our part to help them win!
Tune in this Sunday May 17 at 8:00pm EST to catch us on the Food Network Cake Challenge: Blind Date Cakes. From the Food Network website:
Challenge pairs up four eligible bachelors with four talented cake designers to make a birthday cake for a beautiful young woman. Only the bachelors will interview the bachelorette, and then they must interpret what she wants for the cake designers.
Yesterday we had the opportunity to partner with Park Avenue Club for the Blue Jean Ball at the Community Food Bank. The event helped raise money for the Food Bank whose mission is to fight hunger and poverty in NJ.
During the event they had a tasting style dinner buffet where we provided Strawberry Shortcake Shooters and Mini Cherry Cobbler.
The shortcakes included fresh strawberry compote with classic shortcake and Tahitian vanilla cream. The cobbler was a petite sweet tart shell baked with sour cherry brandy filling and butter crumb topping. Here’s a photo of Beverly preparing the tasting treats:
Here’s a photo of Kristen at our booth with the cobblers and shortcakes setup and the state fair cake perched atop a wooden cupcake stand from Still Life Fine Event Design in Morristown, NJ.
We had a great time supporting the event and encourage our readers to help support their local food banks. They need our help now more than ever.
Everyyear for the past three years, I’ve made my nephew Brian a cake for his birthday.
This year we made him some super-duper truck cupcakes for his kids party and a two-tier train cake for the family party. He even invented his own flavor for this two tier cake -- vanilla with chocolate oreos and cream filling.

We often hear about contests for brides/grooms and figure our blog is a great way to help spread the word.
Recently we were contacted by Laura Baron from Londin Photography in NYC about a contest her company is running to award a free wedding photography session to the best engagement story submission. More information is available on the company’s web site.
So by now you’ve all seen the Food Network Challenge… I want to first say thank you to all that have sent emails, blog comments, text messages and phone calls…sharing your support! I truly appreciate knowing that you are out there enjoying what I and Pink Cake Box produce!
After living the real life 8 hour challenge, and then watching it on tv…my comments are below
1) I do realize there is no crying in cake But sometimes there is…
2) At the time, I made the decision to do as the client wanted…even though in theory she wasn’t a client…and it was a challenge….but in real life I always try to make the bride happy!
3) In the end, I was upset because I didn’t stay true to my work (i.e. it wasn’t as clean as I would like, nor was the color scheme very cohesive, etc) and the result was that my cake looked terrible…and the judges called me on it.
So that’s it in a nutshell. It was a great learning experience..I do feel I did a lot better in the 2nd one…and I can promise I don’t normally cry when I make wedding cakes. : )
Thanks again to my family and friends for sharing your warm wishes with me!!!
For those of you in the DC/VA area, we’ll be attending the National Capital Area Cake show on March 21st, 2009.
We are participating in two events. The first is a live cake challenge with a Fairy Dreams and Castle theme. After the challenge, we’ll be leading a topsy turvy demo. We’ll show you how to carve cakes to make them topsy turvy. The demo will include squaring off and stacking the topsy turvy cake.
Please visit NCACS website for more information and registration information.

We are excited to announce that Pink Cake Box will be making another appearance on CNN Headline News (now known as HLN). Last year right around this time Pink Cake Box was featured on CNN’s Small Business Segment.
This year, CNN is profiling Pink Cake Box in a new small business series called “How we got started”.
Showtimes are as follows
Saturday, February 7 1:30P-2P EST
Sunday, February 8 10:30A-11A EST
Note: Your cable provider usually carries two CNN channels – look for the CNN HLN station for our feature. For example, if you live in North Jersey and have Cablevision you can HLN on channel 59 while regular CNN is on channel 25.
These special edition cakes come in three delicious flavors: vanilla cake with dark chocolate buttercream filling, red velvet cake with vanilla buttercream filling or chocolate cake with raspberry chambord filling. Packaged in our signature pink box! Cake sizes range from 5 to 8 inches. Prices range from $75 to $125.
Julie from Warren Country Florist contacted us recently to see if we were interested in creating a wedding cake for a wedding that is going to be featured on the Style Network show “Whose Wedding Is It Anyway”
For those of you who do not know, “Whose Wedding Is It Anyway?” is a reality TV show which follows the bride and groom as they plan their big day. The show’s cast has a fantastic list of wedding planners including Jenny Orsini of Pampered Brides Weddings who we’ve had the pleasure of working with in the past.
So needless to say, we accepted the job and were recently visited by the bride, groom and TV crew at our shop to plan the design of the wedding cake. The weddings theme was black and white …with an emphasis on winter wonderland. I will hold off on showing you photos of the cake until the show airs… But the great part of this show was that the entire wedding was given to the bride and groom as a gift from many vendors…The couple was obviously beyond thankful and excited . They are a fantastic duo and definitely deserve all the wonderful things that were given to them!
Stay tuned for more information as to when the show is going to air!
